Welcome to Monarch Butterfly, thank you for visiting us today. If you have dropped by it is probable that either you or somebody that you know has a diagnosis of Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, or ‘BPD’ as it is known in its abbreviated term. If that is the case then you have come to the right place, not only will you find helpful information about the disorder, you will be reading comments throughout from individuals who have a ‘lived experience’, from both the perspective of ‘the diagnosed’ and ‘undiagnosed’. If you are directly affected by a personality disorder diagnosis you may be feeling confused, low, isolated or exhausted, possibly all of the above. It is our hope that that you find some comfort from Monarch Butterfly.
Personality Disorder and Monarch Butterfly
There are ten personality disorders, throughout this website you will find information about all ten disorders. Over time we will be adding more and more information to this website in the hope that we can be of some support to a broader audience affected by personality disorder. We have chosen to cover all personality disorders because, often, a person who struggles with Borderline Personality Disorder will exhibit traits from the wider spectrum of disorders and even meet the criteria for those too.
Why is Monarch Butterfly different from other informational websites?
We aim to deliver information directly from root source and will offer signposting to global authoritative websites that have a wealth of information on BPD and associated topics. Academic resources are helpful particularly when you are unfamiliar with the diagnosis or recently diagnosed, also keeping abreast of research advancement can be useful. We offer all of that but in addition to that we offer lived experience, you can not ‘learn’ what it feels like to live with BPD nor can you ‘learn’ what it feels like to love someone with the disorder unless you have been right there and bought the t-shirt, we have.
Experts by experience
Throughout the Monarch Butterfly Website you will see ‘the little lady’ image to the right dotted around, wherever she is displayed you will note that there is a personal perspective that comes from a lived experience of having a Borderline Personality Disorder.
Where the thoughts are from the perspective of a non diagnosed person/carer you will see the ‘little man’ to the right displayed as an indicator that there is a lived experience being shared. This will be from a ‘non diagnosed’ perspective, in this case the partner.
From time to time you will see top tips and suggestions dotted throughout the website, these tips and suggestions are not coming from ‘medical professionals’ they are from individuals who have a ‘lived experience’ of either living with the diagnosis or knowing someone who has the diagnosis. Please use your own discretion when making decisions about your own healthcare, the tips facility is just as it reads on the tin, ‘tips’. For expert medical advice please visit your general practitioner or speak to a healthcare professional from your local community mental health services.
How can you help?

If you can help in some way please do let us know, please visit our ‘How can you help’ page for more information.
